At LakeShore, we love to show our goats and it shows. During the summer months, it is not uncommon for the LakeShore does to compete in eighteen or more show rings at fairs and club shows throughout Northern California. From the time Megan purchased her first goats in the spring of 1992, showing goats has always been her summer time job. Goat shows took the place of a job, as we often attended several premium-paying fairs throughout the season. Megan's parents always told her, either have a summer job and no goats or keep the goats and show them all summer long, but not both. Obviously, Megan chose the second option and has never quit showing. Even with a full-time job and being an ADGA licensed judge for the past six years, Megan still finds time to show goats. Luckily with the help and support of her parents, getting the goats to the shows and showing them has become a whole lot easier. Everyone involved in the LakeShore operation enjoys goat shows!

The ADGA National Show is another favorite show of ours as it is a great place to see and meet many breeders from other states that you usually only see once a year. It is a lot of hard work and an adventure to get there that requires many sacrifices, but it is also a great experience and well worth the effort. By the time the end of the week arrives, we often wonder where the week went.
We attended our first National Show in 1994 where we traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska. The highlight for us was having our four year-Old doe place 2 nd in her class and "making the cut" with the rest of the goats that we took. We also enjoyed seeing all of the herds that we had only read about. As we were looking at all of these beautiful does, we began dreaming that someday we would like to own one as nice.
The longest trip that we have made with animals was to Springfield,

Massachusetts in 2001 for the National Show. This was by far longest trip, having traveled over 6,000 miles, but also the greatest trip since we caravanned with friends. The caravan of 5 women (Karen & Krista Senn, Karen Lewis, Megan & Kristine) talked our way across the United States in 5 days, with cell phones and walkie-talkies. As if 14 hours a day of telling stories and laughing wasn't enough for a day, we also shared a room and talked half the night away.
After having traveled across the entire United States, we hoped that our does would be able to recover well from the journey and at least be able to make the cut. We were thrilled when we won two of the junior doe classes and the Two Year-Old milker class with GCH Sierra, as well as several group classes. If it weren't for the encouragement from our friend and mentor, Karen Senn, we probably would not have made the trip. She continually told us that we had nice does and that we would not "bomb out" after making such a long trip. She was right again! Thanks Karen! |

We have been hooked on the National Show since then and just plan on going each year because every place else has to be closer than Massachusetts was. We often tease Larry that we bet he never thought he would be going on a summer vacation to see the countryside with 20 goats in tow. Fortunately he is a very supportive dad and husband.
At the 2003 ADGA National Show, only nine years after attending our first National Show, we were bestowed the honor of winning Premier Nubian Breeder and Exhibitor, an accomplishment we had never

dreamed of winning. To add to the excitement, our two year-old doe, CH Lakeshore Farms Ace Of Hearts, won her class and was awarded Best Nubian Udder. In 2004, after losing three of our top show does from 2003, it was a tough decision to make the trip to Harrisburg knowing that some of our best does were left at home. Despite these setbacks, the other members of our herd stepped up and revealed the strength and depth of our breeding program as we were awarded the honor of being Premier Nubian Breeder and Premier Nubian Exhibitor for the second year in a row at the National Show.

California State Fair Sacramento, California August 2004
One of our all-time favorite shows is the California State Fair held in August every year. We have not missed this fair since we began raising dairy goats in 1991. When Megan was a member of 4-H, the herd competed in the Youth Division, where we had the honor of winning Supreme Champion in 1994 and Reserve Supreme Champion in 1997 with GCH Lakeshore Farms T.P. Lacey at two years of age. In 1998, after Megan ended her 4-H career, the herd moved up to the highly competitive Open Division where we have competed ever since. One of the goals that Megan fostered as a young child was to someday win Grand Champion Nubian at the California State Fair. Four long years later, that goal was finally attained when CH Lakeshore Farms Ace Of Hearts was named Grand Champion and Best Nubian Udder at the 2003 California State Fair. This past year, we were fortunate to again win this top honor with GCH Lakeshore Farms Sierra Storm, who also had Best Nubian Udder. The LakeShore herd has also brought home the title of Premier Nubian Breeder and Premier Nubian Exhibitor at the 2002, 2003 and 2004 California State Fairs.
